Three Words That Change Everything (When You’re Ready to Stop Overthinking Your Life)

There comes a point where more planning does not bring more clarity.

More goals do not bring more peace.
And more “shoulds” do not bring more fulfillment.

That is where this practice comes in…

In a recent Consider the Possibilities solo podcast episode, I shared a framework I have returned to again and again, especially in seasons of transition, growth, or quiet reinvention.

It is simple.
It is grounded.
And it works.

Why I Don’t Believe in Resolutions (or Forced Vision Boards)

Every January, we are sold the same story.
New year. New you. New rules.

But the truth is this.
Most resolutions are abandoned within weeks, not because we lack discipline, but because they are not rooted in who we actually want to become.

This year, I did not feel called to create a vision board.
Instead, I chose a theme. One word that reflects how I want to move through my life.

For me, that word is trust.

Not blind trust.
But trust in timing.
Trust in my body’s wisdom.
Trust that I do not have to control everything to be okay.

That theme set the tone.
But the real transformation came from something else.

The Power of Three (And Why It Works)

Humans are wired for three.

We remember three things.
We process ideas in threes.
Our language, stories, philosophies, and belief systems are built this way.

So instead of trying to do everything, I focus on being three things.

These words become a filter.

How I spend my time.
What I say yes or no to.
Which opportunities align, and which do not.

They create clarity without rigidity.

How the Three-Word Exercise Works

The exercise starts with honesty.

You make a list of adjectives that describe:

  • Who you already are, the good
  • Where you struggle, the not-so-good
  • Traits you feel neutral about or have not fully claimed yet

Then comes the real question.

Who do you want to be?

Not for optics.
Not for approval.
But for alignment.

From that list, you choose three words that reflect the version of yourself you are becoming.

For me, those words are:

  • Intentional
  • Grateful
  • Bold

I do not just write them down.
I live with them.

They show up on my wall.
On my phone reminders.
In my decision-making.

Before I commit to something, I ask myself:

Would a woman who is intentional, grateful, and bold say yes to this?

If the answer is no, I listen.

These Words Are Meant to Serve You (Not Trap You)

Here is the part people often miss.

This is not a lifetime contract.

If your words stop serving you in three months, you change them.
Growth is fluid.
Your tools should be too.

The goal is not perfection.
The goal is alignment.
